It is time for the next installment of your birth story, Hosea. We go from Philly, to Baltimore, and finally get to West Virginia.
Leaving Philly to go to Baltimore felt just like any other trip. Your mom and I planned on spending a couple of days in Baltimore to enjoy our last mini-vacation together before your arrival. This would be our first time in Baltimore together, so we were very excited.
Now I have to explain something important about your mom and I. We tend to be a bit scatter-brained. Although, I am sure that you have realized that by now.
Our plan was to leave Thursday afternoon, drive down, and just chill at the hotel for the evening. We would then take Friday to go into the city and explore the sights. We would then go to the wedding on Saturday and travel to West Virginia on Sunday. So that is what we did. We loaded up and made the short drive down I-95 to Baltimore and checked into the hotel. We were hanging out and going through the itinerary and that is when your mom realized the wedding was not on Saturday evening but was on Sunday evening.
Our plans would have to be slightly altered. Instead of traveling on Sunday we would just travel on Monday. No harm, no foul. There was no sense in ruining our weekend over something so small.
As I mentioned, Friday was going to be our day to go into Baltimore to check out what there was to see. We quickly decided that we wanted to go to the National Aquarium. This would easily become the highlight of our trip. The aquarium is incredible, and I hope we get to take you there someday. I know that you will love it. They have just about every type of fish there is, including sharks. I am pretty sure you are a fan of sharks. You probably don’t remember this, but the first movie you watched with your dad was Jaws while you were still in the NICU.

We didn’t do very much on Saturday. Pregnancy is exhausting and mommy need some rest. And I was more than happy to let her. I too was exhausted. We spent much of the day hanging around the hotel room. I had to do some shopping because I needed a new shirt for the wedding. I also used that as an opportunity to buy something for grandad for Father's Day. You know your parents, so of course we did have dinner reservations to go to a nice place to eat that evening.
Sunday was a good day. It was a long day, but still a good one. Because the wedding was in the evening, we had to check out of the hotel that morning and would have several hours to kill with nowhere really to go. We decided we would go get some brunch and would walk around for a bit exploring a cute little neighborhood in Baltimore. We also stopped for some coffee at a local coffee shop.
As I have mentioned, the wedding we were attending was for one of your mom’s friends and former co-workers. Her name is Doris and she was getting married to Calvin. Doris and Calvin are a fun and sweet couple. It was also a chance to met up with some more of her old co-workers — Lisa Lee (and her husband), Migs, and Emma. They were all so excited to see your mommy and her belly.
The wedding was quite beautiful. It was outdoors at this lovely wedding venue called Belmont Manor. Mom and I had so much fun catching up with old friends and eating good food. They even did karaoke at the reception. Even though your dad has the voice of an angel, he did not sing in front of all those people.
We wish we could have stayed later but we decided it was best to get a couple of hours down the road before stopping for the night to get some rest at a hotel. I can’t remember the name of the hotel or where it was, all I can remember is that it was very uncomfortable.
We got up early that next morning and hit the road again. It wasn’t long until we got to West Virginia and that is where things would really get interesting. You were just a few days from making your suprise grand entrance.
Stay tuned for part 3…
